The Thoma brand advertises heavily on social media and makes some seriously premium bedroom furniture, in particular the bedWhich is a very simple platform bed frame. Thoma is a great place to visit if you are looking to upgrade your bedroom furniture. Now, Thoma has a quality mattress to go with its bed frame, making it a one-stop bedroom shop. In this article, we will talk about the mattress and whether it is worth buying.

First impressions of the Thoma hybrid mattress

In the same shipment, we received several items from Thoma: its bed frame, nightstands and the Thoma hybrid mattress. Our impression of the bed frame and nightstands was very positive, and the same for the mattress itself.

When we took it out of the box, the look and feel reminded me of the Thoma Hybrid Satava Classics Right off the bat, that's high praise considering how much I and the rest of the CNET Sleep team value Satava Classic. Thanks to its hybrid design and the incorporation of latex foam into its construction, it didn't have much gas to contend with, and it didn't need much time to solidify. I found that it was slightly firmer than the average mattress and had a classic, comfortable feel.

Construction and realization of the Thoma hybrid

The construction of the Thoma Hybrid is very straightforward, which means there aren't many individual layers under its cover. However, the types of layers that use it are somewhat unusual.

The bottom layer is a thick layer of individually wrapped pocket coils that comprise the support layer. This type of coil layer provides nearly the same level of bounce and support as traditional innersprings while also allowing for tighter coils along the perimeter of the mattress to isolate cross-mattress motion and improve edge support. Works much better.

Above the coil layer is a transition layer of memory foam that provides some pressure relief and helps ensure that you only feel bounce and support from the coil layer, not the coil itself. Most mattresses have some type of transfer layer like this.

Above the memory foam transition layer is a layer of bouncy, responsive and buoyant latex foam. This type of foam has almost the exact opposite properties of memory foam, which is usually much slower to respond and conforms to the shape of your body. Finally, there is a layer of wool between the latex foam and the core to provide some extra comfort on the sleeping surface.

Having both foams in the same mattress balances out the feel of the two and gives you a bit more without feeling as stiff as latex foam or memory foam. I would describe the feel of the Thoma as a traditional interior type feel that I think most sleepers will find comfortable and familiar.

Thoma hybrid mattress firmness and sleeper types

After testing the Thoma mattress for quite some time, our team agrees that it sits between a medium and medium-firm, making it a fairly comfortable mattress for all sleeper types. , works well for back, stomach, side and combination.

The group I can see struggling on the Thoma Hybrid are the petite side sleepers. A person's body weight has a significant impact on the perception of firmness, and if you're very light, you'll probably find the Thoma Hybrid closer to the medium end of the spectrum, which may not give you enough volume. Do it. If you sleep on your side, relieve pressure on your hips and shoulders.

And, of course, there are those who prefer beds that are very firm and have very little give, and while I find the Thoma Hybrid firm enough to comfortably sleep on your back or stomach. Yes, there are much stronger options available for this than others. Brands

So far this bed only comes in one firmness option. It wouldn't surprise me to see more in the future, though.

Performance of the Thoma Hybrid

Edge support

Mattress edge support simply means how well the outer perimeter of the bed holds up under pressure. If the mattress sags at the edges, you may feel like you're about to roll out of bed, which isn't conducive to a good night's sleep.

I mentioned earlier that the edge coils on the Thoma Hybrid are reinforced, and we could definitely notice that during testing. I didn't feel any roll sensation when putting my full body weight on the edge of the bed, which is great news for joints.

Movement alone

The Thoma Hybrid Mattress is average in terms of its ability to isolate cross-mattress motion. Latex foam is more responsive than most other types of mattress foams, and this is the layer that is closest to the sleeping surface. However, with the memory foam layer underneath, it performs a little better than most latex beds in this category.

We don't see this as a deal breaker for the majority of sleepers. However, if you're a really light sleeper who wakes up easily if your partner tosses and turns, it may happen more than others in this bed.

Temperature regulation

The Thoma Hybrid mattress doesn't have any active cooling elements like the phase change material built into the cover, but thanks to the nature of the material, it helps you sleep without overheating.

Pocket coils, latex foam and wool are naturally breathable. Additionally, you sleep more on top of the mattress than “inside” it, which should also help keep your sleep temperature neutral.

Final decision

Overall, my opinion of the Thoma Hybrid is quite positive. I think it's comfortable, remarkably luxurious, with a decent strength profile and priced competitively with other standard hybrids. I think it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a quality hybrid. Many people will be happy with it.

However, my only “issue” with the bed has nothing to do with the mattress itself. I just think there are other great options on the market at similar or even cheaper prices. I think if Thoma decided to offer a bundle deal for their bed frame and this mattress, it would be a lot more compelling, but for now, the Saatva Classic and The WinkBed are a bit overpriced with multiple firmness options. Offer and similar comfort. felt

I want to emphasize that I think the Thoma Hybrid is really nice and comfortable, and if you get it, I think you'll be happy with it, but it's, in my opinion, its Doesn't offer much like the competition.

If you like the Thoma Hybrid Mattress.:

  • You enjoy a sense of responsibility.
  • You're sharing this mattress and want good edge support.
  • You want a proper strength profile.
  • You need a mattress that has coils.

If you don't like the Thoma mattress:

  • You may want a particularly soft or firm mattress.
  • You want the feel of sink-in memory foam.
  • You're shopping on a tight budget.

Other mattresses from Thoma.

There are currently no other mattresses offered by Thoma. They may release more options in the future.

How does the Thoma Hybrid compare to similar mattresses?

Thoma Hybrid vs Satava Classic

The Saatva Classic is one of our favorite mattresses and has some features not found on the Thoma Hybrid, such as multiple firmness options. Its softest model we rate as a medium, slightly softer than the Thoma, and it also has two firmer models than the Thoma. The Satava also features a zoned support design thanks to a thin layer of memory foam in the lumbar area. Apart from that, the Saatva Classic and Thuma Hybrid have a similar feel and are priced the same once the discount is taken into account.

Thoma Hybrid vs. Winkbed

The comparison between Thuma Hybrid and The Winkbed is a similar story to that of the Saatva Classic with the key difference being being able to pick and choose your firmness level. The Winkbed has a soft model, a luxury firm and a firm model, which go really well with medium soft, medium and medium firm, and an option called Winkbed Plus, designed for heavier people. Is. This mattress has a similar price to the Thoma Hybrid unless you factor in the discount, which makes the Wink Bed slightly more affordable.

Thoma Hybrid vs Lisa Natural

Both the Thoma Hybrid and Lissa Natural share a similar design as both combine natural latex foam, natural wool and more traditional mattress foams for a balanced feel. I think the Lisa leans more towards the latex foam feel at the natural end of the spectrum, but it's not overwhelming, and that's by design. Both of these beds also have a similar firmness profile and a similar price point, with the Lissa Natural being slightly more affordable after discounts.
