Intel Core i9-14900KS Drops Down To 5.1 GHz Clocks With “Performance” Profile, Baseline Default To Result In Further Loss
Intel's CPUs like the flagship Core i9-14900KS suffer from a huge drop in clock speed if that's the only solution. Stick with the default BIOS option.
If you want to stick with Intel's default BIOS profiles and maintain stability on 14th and 13th Gen CPUs, you will find your CPUs running severely underclocked.
The story of instability issues with Intel's recent 14th and 13th Gen CPUs has been all over the web for quite some time now, and despite gaining massive traction, Intel still can't provide an official fix or statement, including their Total destruction is visible from the side.
The last update we saw from the company was a “request” from motherboard manufacturers. Apply the new “Intel Default Settings” profiles. As a default BIOS option to prevent users from going beyond certain core limits, and because of this, benchmarks show that gamers will experience a massive drop in performance, more than 10%.
Expanding on the above point a bit, now that Intel customers will have to adopt baseline configurations to maintain 14th Gen and 13th Gen CPU stability, the respective processors will be powered by 125/188W (PL1/PL2) profiles. Has to be set to low, Iccmax is now dropped to 249A.
Here comes the interesting part. According to the criteria carried out by Bang4BuckPC Gamer Via YouTube, it's revealed that with Iccmax set to 307A, Intel's “performance” preset, the tested Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU managed to drop down to 5.1 GHz clock speed, which is 17 % is the drop. Speed vs. its official peak of 6.2 GHz (across a single core).
It's important to note that this testing was done without implementing the new baseline settings but rather the “Performance” profile so we can expect a big drop in clock speed using the baseline default profile, and when As motherboard manufacturers start limiting CPUs well, the performance drop will be really noticeable and can exceed double digits. It's definitely something to worry about as a consumer because we're not paying a fortune just to see instability issues, which are also present in some of the flagship units of Intel's CPU lineup.
The 14900KS clocks as low as 5.1GHz in some different games according to this video (with the 307A aka Intel's “Performance” preset), so not sure how Intel will handle even lower amps (reports say That 249A) new default.https://t.co/qFpt8lckk4 https://t.co/FV1o63hRj6

Intel plans to implement its “baseline” profiles by motherboard and system partners by the end of this month, and an official statement will be released by May 15, where the company will take customers into confidence. Well, at least we can. Hope for that.
