Intel Kills Its 13th Gen Raptor Lake-S Unlocked Desktop “Boxed” CPUs, Seven SKUs EOL List

The latest update comes in the form of Product Change Notification “818660-00” which is said to disable select boxed 13th Gen Raptor Lake-S Desktop CPUs. The publication date is 21 March 2024 so it is very recent. The deadline for OEMs and retailers to order these chips is May 24, 2024, and final shipments will be made by June 28, 2024. So it looks like Intel is going to streamline its desktop lineup and focus on the 14th Gen family.

Intel's 13th Gen Raptor Lake-S desktop CPUs were first launched in late 2022.Shortly after AMD's Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” desktop launch. The lineup initially included six SKUs, the Core i9-13900K/KF, i7-13700K/KF and i5-13600K/KF. The 65W and 35W SKUs will launch in the coming months with a flagship Core i9-13900KS model that has boosted the clock speed to 6.0 GHz.

Today, all of these unlocked 13th Gen Raptor Lake-S desktop CPUs are being EOL'd. Standard tray versions will still be available but boxed versions aimed mostly at DIY users will be phased out. It makes sense for Intel to make such a move as 14th Gen CPUs are already in the market and offer better performance while maintaining a similar core configuration at similar price points.

The only reason we can recommend going the 13th Gen Raptor Lake-S desktop CPU route is that some retailers are offering big discounts on these chips. While Core i9-14900K/KF CPUs cost over $500 US.the Core i9-13900K/KF CPUs can be found for around $450 US. Which is a reasonable savings amount. You're getting the same performance as the extra +200 MHz clock can get you a lot more than just apps and games.
