'House of the Dragon' Season 2's Targaryen family tree: How everyone connects

A new season of Home of the Dragon That means we're back in the trenches of parsing the Targaryen family tree.

This process can be difficult for a number of reasons: the sheer number of characters, their similar names (seriously, does George RR Martin get paid by “ae”?), and of course, all the profanity. So if you've ever asked yourself the question, “Who is that?” or “How are they related again?”, you've come to the right place.

Here, you'll find the Targaryen family tree as it heads into Season 2, complete with deaths and the latest marriages. If you need a refresher on Season 1 Family Tree, time jump and all, We've got you covered there too.. Read on for all the characters you need to remember going into Season 2, and how the twisted Targaryen family tree ties them all together.

Alliant High Tower

Kicking things off at the top of our family tree is Team Green's mother Elant Hightower. After the death of her husband Viserys and the coronation of their son Aegon II, Alicent became Dowager Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. His father, Otto Hightower, is Aegon's Hand of the King. He also served as the hand of two past kings, Jehyres and Viserys. Clearly, the Hightowers have no intention of leaving the Targaryens alone just yet.

Alicent and Viserys had four children together, and we're already getting some classic Targaryen sibling sex with two of them. As is the custom of the House of Dragons, Aegon II married his younger sister Helena. Predictive Visions in Season 1 Establishing her as a “dreamer” like Aegon the Conqueror. Together, they have three children: twins Jaehaerys and Jaehaera, and Maelor. As Aegon's eldest son, Jaegers is currently heir to the throne.

of Aegon and Helena Younger brother Aemond will prove to be a major player in the upcoming Dance of the Dragons. He currently rides Whagar, the largest of the dragons, as well as the creature responsible for killing Lucifers Targaryen. Oh, and with his sapphire eye and eyepatch combo, he rocks. The best accessories in all of Westeros.

Daeron, the youngest of Elaine and Viserys' children, has yet to join. Home of the DragonBut that doesn't mean he doesn't exist! I Fire and blood, he grows up in Old Town as a ward of House Hightower. Maybe he'll get in on the action in Season 2. Even just mentioning it would be nice!

Rhaenys Targaryen and Corlys Targaryen

Both The Queen Who Never Was and The Sea Serpent survived Season 1. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for their children. His daughter Lena died during a painful childbirth, when he ordered his Dragon Wager to set it on fire. Their son Lenore, Rhaenyra Targaryen's first husband, died in a sword fight. At least, that's what Rhaenys and the Corlys believe.

In fact (and in a The biggest changes from Martin's work), Lenore fakes her own death and flees to Essos with her lover Qarl, leaving her dragon Seismok behind. This move offered Lenore a fresh start and Rhaenyra a new marriage. Unfortunately, it also destroys her parents, who have already suffered a lot. If Lenore ever returns to Westeros – and given the events Fire and bloodI'm not sure he will—he'll have some explaining to do to his poor mother and father.

Once Lenore and Lena were both dead (or at least it seemed like they were), there was nothing stopping Rhaenyra and Damon from getting married. Certainly not the fact that they are uncle and niece!

In the years between their marriage and the end of Season 1, Rhaenyra and Daemon have two sons: Aegon III and Viserys II. Their daughter, Viznia, is stillborn, another tragic loss Rhaenyra will suffer after her father's death.

By all official standards, Rhaenyra and Lenore had three children together during their marriage. Yet it is an open secret that these three are the bastard sons of Ser Aaron Strong, who The fire was set by his brother Larris In season 1

Aaron may die, but (some) of his sons live. As the eldest child, Jacaerys is Rhaenyra's heir. If she manages to take the Iron Throne, she's next in line. His younger brother Lucarius was heir to House Valarion's seat of Driftmark, but after his tragic death Season 1 finalethe title probably goes to Joffrey, the youngest of the three boys.

Rounding out the family tree are Bella and Reyna Targaryen, daughters of Damon and Lyanna and legitimate granddaughters of Rhaenys and Corlys.

Like many Targaryens, Bella is a dragon rider. We already see him riding his mount Moondancer. Season 2 trailer, so expect him to have a bigger role this season. She's also betrothed to her cousin Jacqueris, which is pretty acceptable as far as Targaryen promiscuity goes.

Unlike Bella, Rena does not have a dragon, nor is she married. He had hoped to claim Vhagar after his mother's death, but Aemond got there first. It was Rena. too Promises to marry Lucerius, but once again, Amand gets in the way. He just made it out for Team Black, didn't he?

Home of the Dragon Season 2 premieres June 16 at 9pm ET on HBO and Max, with a new episode every Sunday.
