ASUS ROG Ally X Handheld Priced At $799, Packs AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU & 1 TB SSD

ASUS' recently teased ROG Ally X handheld is expected to debut with upgraded storage and memory capabilities for $799 US.

ASUS' ROG Ally X handheld still packs the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU but comes with upgraded memory, storage and design specs that cost a little extra.

When the new ASUS ROG Ally X handheld It was teased a few days ago., ASUS decided against providing a proper rundown on the specifications just for the element of surprise. While we weren't expecting a “mere” refresh of the original ROG Alley, it was certainly interesting to see the surface of the device. Now, let's go @MysteryLupin has revealed the specifications of the handheld, and further clarified the situation.

Based on the leaked spec sheet, it is now clear that the ASUS ROG Ally X is based on the same AMD Ryzen Z1 architecture. Still, the difference here is that the Z1-Non Extreme APU will not be included as the X model targets higher performance. The device is said to come with a 7-inch 1080p panel running at 120Hz, no improvement in that department. Onboard storage is a big part as the ROG EleX will offer 1 TB of storage as a baseline, which is more than enough for modern day usage.

Among other specifications, the handheld comes with upgraded LPDDR5X-7500 memory support and a 40% larger battery, as revealed by ASUS in its teaser specifications. The ROG Elix will also debut with a black color scheme, which looks stunning in photos and is a really great match.

That's it for the most part. Performance-wise, the ROG Ally X certainly isn't much of a leap from its “non-X” counterpart, except for the fact that it comes with upgraded memory support. Major changes have been made to the onboard storage compatibility and battery capacities.

The leaker has also given us a hint at possible ROG Ally X pricing as it says the starting price is expected to be around $799, which is around $100 more than the regular variant. Since you're paying for more storage and better specs, the bump isn't huge and is justified for such a refresh. We're not yet aware of the device's configuration, but it's capable of holding up to 8TB of drives. More details are expected to be announced at Computex 2024.
