ASUS Now Offers Extended Warranty On ROG Ally For SD Card Related Issues

Gamers looking for a high-end Steam Deck alternative turned to the ASUS ROG Ally, a gaming handheld featuring the AMD Ryzen Z1 series. Despite its allure, the device had its drawbacks. A notable issue was the malfunction of the SD card slot, which could potentially damage inserted cards.

Introduced in June last year, the Ally came under scrutiny after ASUS admitted that some units may experience SD card-related issues. In response, the company released software and firmware updates aimed at increasing system reliability by at least adjusting fan speeds.

However, these actions did not fully resolve the issues, leading the company to revise the terms of the warranty. ASUS has decided to extend the coverage of ROG Ally from 12 months to 24 months. With this extension, the company will reimburse customers for any damaged SD cards, either based on the card's purchase price or its fair market value.

This warranty revision is intended specifically for customers in the United States. However, users in regions like the European Union usually already have a 24-month warranty, so this update doesn't significantly affect those gamers. In particular, there is no indication of compensation for damaged SD cards mentioned here.

ROG Ali SD Card Reader

We have found that a small number of SD card readers in the ROG Ally (2023) RC71L may not perform as expected. That's why we're extending the warranty on the SD card reader from twelve to twenty-four months.

If you send the card(s) to us with proof of purchase when returning your partner for RMA service, we will refund SD cards damaged by an SD card reader. If you do not have proof of purchase for your damaged SD card(s), we will refund the fair market value of the card(s) as determined by us.

If you previously sent your ally for warranty service and did not receive compensation for the damaged SD card, you may contact us to discuss receiving compensation. In lieu of RMA service, if you purchased your Ally (2023) RC71L directly from ASUS you may return your Ally to us for a full refund within 90 days of purchase.

For other countries, if you are currently experiencing issues with your SD card reader, please contact your local customer service to request an RMA for your unit.
