AMD Ryzen 7 8700F & Ryzen 5 8400F “iGPU-Less” APUs Launched For Global Markets But Limited To OEM

AMD has officially launched two of its brand new entries in the Ryzen 8000G APU lineup, Ryzen 7 8700F And Ryzen 5 8400F.

AMD Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F APUs See Global Launch But Limited to OEM Segment

AMD announced the expansion of its Ryzen 8000G family during the AI PC event in China. And now officially launched both these chips. While the launch is a global affair, it looks like the two APUs won't be available through DIY retail channels and will instead be limited to the OEM segment and that means you'll see pre-built PCs equipped with these offerings. will

Starting with the specifications, the AMD Ryzen 7 8700F APU has 8 cores and 16 threads based on the Zen 4 core architecture. It has a base clock of 4.1 GHz and a boost clock of 5.05 GHz, which is slower in both base and boost than the Ryzen 7 8700G (-0.05 GHz Boost/-0.10 GHz Base). It has a total of 16 MB of L3 cache and lacks an RDNA 3 iGPU.

Similarly, AMD Ryzen 5 8400F has 6 cores and 12 threads based on Zen 4 architecture. It features a base clock of 4.2 GHz and a boost clock of 4.75 GHz (-0.25 GHz boost / +0.1 GHz base). The chip has 6 MB L2 cache along with 16 MB L3 cache and no RDNA 3 iGPU. As for TDP, both chips are set at 65W. You can find some early reviews of both APUs here.

Interestingly, while the iGPU is missing, the NPU specifications are carried over from Non-F SKUs. In the case of the AMD Ryzen 7 8700F, you still get a 16 TOPS “XDNA” NPU while AMD's Ryzen 5 8400F lacks any NPU capabilities as the 8500F doesn't feature an NPU either. Both APUs will be compatible with AM5 and feature the same overclocking capabilities as the other APUs.

As for pricing, since these AMD Ryzen 8000G APUs are limited to OEMs only, they won't be a fixed price but will vary from distributor to distributor based on units ordered. But if these ever hit the DIY market, we can expect them to be $20-$30 US less than the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8500G. We can expect PCs equipped with these APUs to be listed on various vendors soon.
